An appropriations bill with $1.36 million in funding for the redevelopment of the Midtown Plaza site has been approved by a committee that combines Senate and House of Representatives bills, Sen. Charles Schumer
announced Wednesday.
The funding is now included in the 2010 Department of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill.
ãThis is terrific news for the city of Rochester that will bring new life to Midtown," Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a statement. ãInvesting in the Midtown Plaza project will boost economic development prospects across the city,
bringing jobs, business and economic prowess to the entire region.ä
New York State has committed $65 million to demolishing the plaza. Another $3 million in federal funding has been secured for transportation infrastructure, including a network of streets and pedestrian walkways.
The project is projected to create or retain 1,500 jobs and leverage $200 million in investments, Schumer said.
