Coalition to lobby Albany for projects

For the first time, Rochester and Monroe County officials are joining area colleges and labor unions to lobby in Albany for funds for local projects.

During a morning press conference, the Rochester Community Coalition, an outgrowth of the Fair Share Coalition, announced that funding would be

Rapidly developing plans to replace Midtown Plaza are providing a clearer understanding of how complicated and costly the project will be.

PAETEC has begun interviewing architects. A city-hired appraisal of Midtown is under way.

And the two parties will begin formal meetings next week on the myriad questions raised by PAETEC's plan to build a new world headquarters that
would anchor redevelopment of the Midtown site.....

Arlene Parks is a regular at Diva, a shoe shop in Midtown Plaza. As owner Frank Moretti rung up her latest purchase, she said, "Don't go too far!"

Moretti is one of Midtown's 49 businesses that have to find a new home. The building is being torn down to make way for PAETEC's world headquarters.

City issues Midtown-related Requests for Proposals (RFP)

In an effort to further its plans to begin demolition of the Midtown Plaza complex in early 2009, the City of Rochester has issued two RFPs regarding the complex.

Submissions are due December 4th and 21st, 2007, respectively: 1) Relocation planning and advisory services, as well as, 2) Seeking consultant services relating to the preparation of the Midtown Redevelopment Plan and SEQRA Assistance.

Retail's migration to Rochester's suburbs, begun more than 20 years ago, is complete. Little can still be found downtown.

But that hasn't stopped the pining for the glory days, when hordes of shoppers crossed Main Street between Sibley's and Midtown Plaza. Every year, at least one proposed project offers hope of a rejuvenation that will lure shoppers back.

It appears the city is going to pass on buying Midtown Plaza in downtown Rochester. Mayor Robert Duffy told City Council Tuesday night that he will likely let the option to buy Midtown for $6 million expire on Wednesday.
